Kips Bay Brewing Co.

Business Type: Brewery (NY 486 b-f)

Years of Operation: 1895 to 1947

Location: 646 – 652 1st Ave. & 37th & 38th Streets

Description: The Kips Bay Brewing Co. was started in 1895 and took it’s name after the Kips Bay neighborhood bordering the East River in Manhattan. According to Antique Beer Bottles of Old New York. (Guest, Gary 2004) “No known older embossed blob top bottles, with the name and exact location of the brewery (Kips Bay Brewing Co.) are known to exist”. The bottle shown below embossed “Kips Bay Extra Beer” has a separate address from the brewery but it could be possible this was a local bottler for Kips Bay Brewing Co.

This is the only variation of this bottle I have seen, embossed “Kips Bay Extra Beer” w/ the address of the bottling company. It is possible this contained beer brewed at the Kips Bay Brewing Co.
