William Eagle

Business Type: Bottling Company

Years of Operation: 1845 to 1886

Location: Canal, Vestry & Varick Streets, Manhattan

Description: William Eagle was listed as a bottler of porter, ale, soda, mineral water & cider. Eagle’s business operated in Lower Manhattan with “Canal St.” embossed on their beer bottles. Most all Eagle bottles are porter & ale style with some of the earliest having an iron pontil. Towards the end of Eagle’s business he briefly began bottling lager beer.

Teal, squat style blob top w/ iron pontil. Embossed “W. Eagle, Canal St. NY”
Reverse embossed “Philadelphia Porter”
Another variation of the W. Eagle bottle. The same as the first example except the year is embossed “1860”
Here is a William Eagle Lager Beer bottle. This is the only champagne style lager bottle I have ever seen from this company. Embossed “LAGER BIER, 1875, Wm. EAGLE, Cor. CANAL & VARICK St’s. NY” . Embossed across the entire reverse is “THIS BOTTLE NOT TO BE SOLD” This variation must be very uncommon. I could not find it listed anywhere.
